Welcome to the Media ITE website.

This web site area has been created to assist those training teachers of Media in university ITE programmes or in school/college-based training programmes. Although specifically aimed at teachers in England, it may well prove useful for tutors in other countries and we would be pleased to hear from trainers working in other settings as to the value of the materials for other contexts.

The materials recognise that the majority of media teachers are trained whilst in post rather than in ITE, and have been written to reflect the various different starting points and contexts in which teachers new to the teaching of media may find themselves.

The material is organised as follows (click on a section to jump to it):

Overview of routes into training in Media Teaching

Achieving QTS in Media Teacher Training

The media graduate and subject knowledge

Taught curriculum in a GTP programme

The English graduate and subject knowledge

Planning

Assessment and Monitoring Standards

Diversity, Equality, Inclusion Issues

Practical work

Assignment setting and writing

Wider Reading and access to resources

We have added a Subject Network section for updates and overviews of media tutors
experiences of training; and a Further Development section so that, as the project develops
over the next few years, research papers, discussion papers and news from other networks will be added.
