On June 17th 2006, the
first steps were taken towards providing media teachers
in England and Wales with their own subject
association. By officially constituting the Media
Education Association (MEA), delegates from across
the regions paved the way for an association that
will seek to
 |
support media teachers |
 |
promote media literacy
work |
 |
raise the status
of media education |
The creation of the MEA signalled the successful
culmination of months of hard work by a steering
group consisting of representatives from the British
Film Institute, Film Education, English and Media
Centre, In the Picture and others.
The MEA aims to provide members with a comprehensive
website that will develop and support an active
on-line community. By providing access to a comprehensive
database of resources, teachers will be able to
swap ideas, ask for advice, or simply keep up to
date with the latest developments in media education.
As well as facilitating communication between
teachers across the education sectors from primary
to further education and beyond; the website will
also enable communication between media teachers,
community media educators, and practitioners in
the media industries.
