The Media Education Association is well into its second year of existence with some three hundred individual members and over seventy schools and organisations holding institutional membership which includes up to six people in each institution. Consequently MEA is already linked with some five hundred media educationists, mostly located in England and Wales.
Its Executive Committee, elected each year by the members at the Annual General Meeting, meets regularly to oversee the work of MEA. Most tasks are delegated to the officers and sub-committees of the Executive. These working groups are designed to cover not only key educational stages but also the efficient running of the Association.
MEA is supported by a wide range of media education agencies and was funded initially by Ofcom, the UK Film Council and the DfES. Both Ofcom and the Film Council are maintaining this support in the current year. But the longer term success of MEA will depend on the size and energy of its educational membership.
